About Papa Bear Hikes

Papa Bear Hikes is a Podcast for Nature Lovers and Outdoor Enthusiasts. Episodes include interviews and deep dives on everything outdoors, travel, and recreation related with a focus on diversity and inclusivity. We have had guests such as the Executive Director of the American Perimeter Trail Conference, a leading Trail Mycology Communicator, and the founders for National Clean-up Day.

With a lifetime of outdoor experiences including over two decades as a Boy Scout Volunteer and a recipient of the WHITNEY YOUNG, JR. AWARD, the host of the globally popular podcast, Papa Bear Hikes, Martin Armitage has combined his love for the outdoors with his background in online education to create an inspirational and informative program with diverse guests sharing a variety of outdoor topics from travel to outdoor adventures. Martin is also the author of Switching Gears: Rediscovering the Meaning of Life, Love, and Happiness While Backpacking Vermont’s Long Trail and is currently working on an upcoming novel.

Outside of work and outdoor adventuring, Martin and his wife enjoy local theatre, wineries, visiting museums & art galleries, and spending time with their sons.
